Field Music share video for 'Count It Up'

Field Music have unveiled the music video for ‘Count it Up‘ via NPR today, taken from their top 30 album Open Here.

David Brewis has described the track as being written, in part, as a way of processing his anxieties about his hometown of Sunderland after it became the first town in Britain to vote for Brexit. In the “Count it Up” video, directed by Andy Martin, the town functions as both setting and co-star, providing a backdrop that helps to contextualise and complicate the unexamined privilege and reactionary attitudes skewered in the song’s lyrics.

Open Here’ is out now on transparent 180g vinyl, CD and cassette from www.field-music.co.uk. Field Music have also announced a string of UK and European shows in 2018. The dates include special shows at the Barbican in London and Deer Shed Festival, where they will be accompanied with strings, horns, woodwind and assorted percussion provided by the Open Here Orchestra.

SLUG announces new album 'HiggledyPiggledy' and shares first single 'No Heavy Petting'

SLUG, the nom de plume of North East native Ian Black, will return with a brand new album HiggledyPiggledy, set to be released 13th April 2018 through Memphis Industries. You can hear the lead single “No Heavy Petting“, which premiered today by The Line Of Best Fit as a Song Of The Day.

No Heavy Petting” was consciously written to be an aggressive album opener, and which pokes fun at Black’s own Mary Whitehouse-esque response to the sexualisation of music on television:

“’No Heavy Petting’ was kind of a task I gave myself to try and write a “sexy song,” to see if I could do it,” says Black. “So I did a bit of research by turning on a music channel. I was drunk and I realised, while the synthesised marimba, bleeps and drum machines and images of young men and women grinding all over each other, that I’d probably left it a little too late at the age of 35.”

HiggledyPiggledy is available to pre-order now via www.slugband.co.uk on Limited Edition Yellow LP, CD and download. SLUG has just announced a UK tour for April and May, dates below.

27 April – Leeds, Brudenell Social TICKETS
29 April – Glasgow, The Hug and Pint TICKETS
30 April – Manchester, Soup Kitchen TICKETS
01 May – London, The Lexington TICKETS
